In honor of it being so close to kickoff, Front Porch Football is counting down the Top 10 Greatest Moments/Plays in SEC Football since 2010. These plays are selected not only because of their significance, but also because of how insane, bizarre, and epic the moment was. With that being said, we are 2 Days from Kickoff so here is the 2nd best play since 2010. Well, kinda… I decided that two plays tied for second, and they both come from the 2017 season.
January 1, 2018. Rose Bowl. Georgia vs. Oklahoma
For the purposes of this countdown, the play we are ranking as tied for second is Lorenzo Carter’s blocked field goal. First, because Front Porch Football called it…
But second, because it won the game for the Bulldogs. That changed the entire dynamic of the second overtime. Georgia stormed all the way back in the second half to make this a game. After taking the lead late in the second half, Oklahoma answered back. Georgia then had their own answer forcing the Rose Bowl into overtime. Georgia would go on to win and head back to Atlanta where they had already won the SEC Title to fight for a National Title. What happened in the National Title Game? Why don’t you just watch what tied Carter’s Blocked Field Goal.
January 8, 2018. National Title Game. Alabama vs. Georgia.
There isn’t really much to say. This was the play that won Alabama its fifth National Title under Nick Saban. True freshman Tua Tagovailoa came in as the starting quarterback for the second half and took the country by storm. Alabama roared back but after missing a field goal went into overtime where it looked like Georgia had all the momentum. Somehow, after taking a massive sack on first down, Tua was able to calmly and maturely rifle a touchdown pass into the end-zone to finish the game off. An unreal ending to a great National Title Game.
T #2 Best Play: Carter’s Blocked Field Goal
