Ranking the Best Plays Since 2010: No. 1
In honor of it being one stinkin’ day until kickoff, Front Porch Football is counting down the Top 10 Greatest Moments/Plays in SEC Football since 2010. These plays are selected not only because of their significance, but also because of how insane, bizarre, and epic the moment was. With that being said, we are a single day from Kickoff so here is the best play since 2010.
November 30, 2013. Alabama at Auburn. The Iron Bowl. The Kick Six.
The greatest moment in this past decade, the greatest moment in SEC football, hell, the greatest moment in college football history. First of all, it happened in the most passionate college football rivalry the sport has to offer. Second, the winner of this game would go on to Atlanta to play in the SEC Championship Game. Third, the winner would most likely go on to play for the National Title in the Rose Bowl. But what makes it the greatest college football play of all time isn’t even those three things… but instead the fact that (Alabama fans, cover your ears) it was Auburn that returned this kick for the game winning touchdown. Yes, if the roles had been flipped, it would still without a doubt be an amazing play, but the fact that the little brother won in the most improbable fashion to finish off the most improbable game to cap off the most improbable season makes it just that much more special. Remember, Auburn had lost to Alabama 49-0 just a year earlier. And now they were Kings of the SEC. Here are a few more videos for your viewing pleasure…
And I would be remiss if I didn’t add this video, because I have always said that Eli Gold (Voice of the Alabama Crimson Tide) is one of the greatest play-by-play announcers in the game, not only because of how good he is at calling a game, but because of how fair, articulate, and sober he is in some of the biggest moments. Listen to Eli Gold give an accurate call of what happened during the Kick Six. Most announcers would have yelled, and cried, and pouted on air. Not Eli Gold. A true professional. (Starts at the 1:00 Mark.)
