2019 Mock Draft 3.0 (New League Year)

by Harris Oates

1. Arizona Cardinals: Nick Bosa – Edge – Ohio State

One of the most consistent predictions I have had throughout this process is that the Cardinals are taking Bosa first overall. Bosa, Rosen and Johnson will headline the young stars in Arizona.

2. San Francisco 49ers: Quinnen Williams – DT – Alabama

After adding Kwon Alexander and acquiring Dee Ford, the biggest need in San Francisco is a defensive tackle. Williams is the unanimous selection.

3. New York Jets: Josh Allen – Edge – Kentucky

With the third overall pick the Jets elect to take the powerful pass rusher (and 2018 FPF Player of the Year) Josh Allen. After several defensive picks have panned out to be busts, the Jets finally find a guy who can pressure the quarterback. Allen and Adams team up to become two perennial pro bowlers and create one of the best pass defenses in the NFL.

4. Oakland Raiders: Jawaan Taylor – OT – Florida

After making huge moves to acquire Antonio Brown, the Raiders take a less flashy pick and select the best offensive lineman in the draft. Taylor will help to protect Carr for the remainder of his career, even if that means switching Taylor to guard to start.

5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Devin White – LB – LSU

After the departure of Kwon Alexander, the Bucs fill the void by taking the top linebacker. White will be an instant starter but will be a project. His amazing athleticism will need to be paired with a higher defensive IQ, which Bruce Arians and Todd Bowles will instill.

6. New York Giants: Montez Sweat – Edge – Mississippi State

After acquiring the 17th overall pick in exchange for OBJ, the Giants use their first pick to take the physical freak out of Mississippi State rather than taking Murray or Haskins.

7. Jacksonville Jaguars: DK Metcalf – WR – Mississippi

The Jags take Metcalf to give newly signed quarterback a threat similar to Alshon Jeffery.

8. Detroit Lions: Andre Dillard – OT – Washington State

The Lions take the second offensive lineman in the draft in order to protect franchise QB Stafford as well as support the newly emerging ground game with Kerryon Johnson.

9. Buffalo Bills: Noah Fant – TE – Iowa

The Bills address their need for a security blanket for Josh Allen by taking the best tight end prospect we have seen in years.

10. Denver Broncos: Ed Oliver – DT – Houston

Elway claims that Flacco is “in his prime”, so it is pretty clear that he will be their starter for the near future. They look to further strengthen their defense and take the athletic defensive lineman with their first pick.

11. Cincinnati Bengals: Dwayne Haskins  – QB – Ohio State

Haskins will stay in state and become the quarterback of the future for the Bengals. As the AFC North has improved more than any other conference, (despite losing serious star power from the Steelers), and Dalton is nowhere near good enough to make any impact – even with his amazing weapons.

12. Green Bay Packers: Rashan Gary – Edge – Michigan

The Packers take the dynamic pass rusher from Michigan and will have a project on their hands that will constantly get them 8-12 sacks a year, something they have needed since their Super Bowl run.

13. Miami Dolphins: Kyler Murray – QB – Oklahoma

After trading away Tannehill, it has become pretty evident that the Dolphins are targeting several quarterbacks. They take the risk on the Heisman winning and undersized quarterback.

14. Atlanta Falcons: Jonah Williams – OT – Alabama

After losing several linemen since winning the first half of Super Bowl 51, the Falcons need to improve their pass protection to give Ryan a chance to make big time plays in big time games – something that has been missing for the last two seasons.

15. Washington Redskins: AJ Brown – WR – Mississippi

The Redskins take another receiver from Mississippi, making SEC fans conclude that Matt Luke really is the worst coach of all time…Not just in the SEC, but everywhere. The worst. The Grove is pretty chill though, 11/10 tailgate spot, would recommend.

16. Carolina Panthers: Brian Burns – DE – Florida State

One thing is clear in Carolina, they are not taking an offensive lineman 16th overall. After signing Center Matt Paradis and Tackle Darryl Williams and releasing the worst contract in franchise history (Matt Kalil – 5 yr/$55M) they will need to strengthen their pass rush. With the retirement of Julius Peppers, Carolina will look to pick up Burns.

17. New York Giants (From Cleveland): Daniel Jones – QB – Duke

The Giants get their guy, who will learn from Eli for the next season. Jones, a well-coached and hard working QB, will get the privilege to learn from one of the best to ever do it, regardless of what twitter says.

18. Minnesota Vikings: Garrett Bradbury – IOL – NC State

Bradbury, who is one of the best value picks in this draft, will immediately address the Vikings issues on their offensive line. He has the potential to be a first team all pro next season.

19. Tennessee Titans: Cody Ford – IOL – Oklahoma

Cody Ford is taken by the Titans, a team that is desperate to protect their starting Quarterback. Marcus Mariota has already had several seasons derailed by injury, which further strengthens the reasoning behind picking Ford.

20. Pittsburgh Steelers: TJ Hockenson – TE – Iowa

The Steelers take the talented tight end, who compares to the likes of Jimmy Graham and Rob Gronkowski, to help elevate the Steelers after losing two stars.

21. Seattle Seahawks: Byron Murphy – CB – Washington

The Seahawks get the local corner with tremendous upside, hoping to bring back and rebuild a strong secondary to Seattle.

22. Baltimore Ravens: N’Keal Harry – WR – Arizona State

The Ravens take the dynamic wideout who dominated the Pac-12. Harry will plug in anywhere on the field.

23. Houston Texans: Erik McCoy – IOL – Texas A&M

The Texans strengthen their offensive line with Erik McCoy out of College Station.

24. Oakland Raiders: Josh Jacobs – RB – Alabama

Oakland takes the top-rated running back out of Alabama and will assign him the role of Marshawn Lynch. Jacobs will be a bell cow getting 20+ carriers a game for the first time since high school.

25. Philadelphia Eagles: Greedy Williams – CB – LSU

The Eagles had one of the worst secondaries in the NFL last year, but Williams will be a long-time starter for the birds.

26. Indianapolis Colts: Hakeem Butler – WR – Iowa State

This time last year the Colts didn’t even know if Andrew Luck would play another game. Fortunately for them he has returned to elite status. With Hilton aging, they take the tall, but fast receiver out of the Big 12.

27. Oakland Raiders: Chauncey Gardner-Johnson – S – Florida

The Raiders take the safety out of Florida with their third pick and solidify their chances of becoming a contender in the AFC West.

28. LA Chargers: Clelin Ferrell – Edge – Clemson

Somehow Ferrell drops to 28th overall and is the first Clemson product to be drafted. The Chargers capitalize and take the strong edge rusher in a year where analysts are over valuing the need of drafting Defensive Ends.

29. Kansas City Chiefs: DeAndre Baker – CB – Georgia

The Chiefs elect to take a corner instead of addressing their need to replace Hill during his indefinite suspension (and possible expulsion).

30. Green Bay Packers (From New Orleans): Nasir Adderley – S – Delaware

The Packers take the small school product with a big school skillset. If Adderley drops outside the 20’s, consider him a huge steal.

31. LA Rams: Dalton Risner – OT – Kansas State

The Rams take the best available and look to add depth to their offensive line.

32. New England Patriots:  Jerry Tillery – IDL – Notre Dame

Tillery will help fill the open void on their defensive line, which turns into great value moving forward, as he is one of the most pro ready tackles in the draft.
