We’re excited to announce that Front Porch Football will use their own rankings! This would not be possible without Harris Oates, who crunches all the numbers behind the scenes. Below he breaks down our process of how we came to our original Top 25.
Similar to the Coaches Poll, AP and CFP top 25, Front Porch Football has calculated its own formula that we feel fairly ranks the top 25 teams in the nation. Each Monday of the College Football season we will release our updated top 25. The FPF Voting committee consists of 10 voting members that well represent the diversity of the college football landscape.
Here are the members of FPF’s 2019 Committee. (Alphabetical Order)
This rating is calculated to show which team has the strongest rating as well as how far apart the teams are in the top 25 and is scaled from 0-100. A team with a perfect 100.0 has unanimously been selected as the #1 team in the standings. More teams in the high 90’s would indicate that Front Porch Football depicts the league to be extremely top heavy. It not only portrays how strong a team is, but it also emphasizes the boards confidence in certain conferences and programs.
The Index Rating shows how many points ahead a teams Power Rating is than the next team in the rankings. The largest Index Score in our preseason ranking was Oregon, with a 3.06. This means that the biggest drop-off in the top 25 was between Oregon and Washington. The smallest Index Score belongs to Auburn with a .03, meaning they just marginally edged out Penn State for that #14 spot.
Also received votes: Washington State, Colorado State, Nebraska, Mississippi State, Northwestern, Miami (FL), South Carolina, Virginia
