Under A Carolina Sky by Ryan Burns

Best tradition bar none is at South Carolina games before they play “2001,” they play the “Under a Carolina Sky I Stand” video. This video continuously gives me chills and I’ve been hearing it since they began playing it several years ago.

If anyone feels the need to speak to me at a football game they best make sure it’s not at any point between the start of this video and kickoff because I need to be alone with my thoughts to handle the magnitude of the moment before me, and I will personally break their left leg off and beat them with it if they ruin it for me.

Before Steve Spurrier abandoned our football team, he used to come over the Jumbotron and say “it’s now time for Carolina football” right after the aforementioned video ended. There was something about his nasally, back of the mouth, I’m better than you voice, that was the perfect follow up to hearing “It is Saturday in South Carolina, welcome to Williams-Brice”.

While we are no longer blessed by the never quitting (he says sarcastically) and always witty Head Ball Coach; we still get the pure joy of having this video play before each game. And there is nothing that gets me more fired up for Gamecock football than this.

Ryan Burns is a Gamecock through and through. Very unbiased opinion and Newspring pays Clemson’s players.

  1. I am with Burns. Carolina by far has the best game day experience especially at night with sandstorm. I can convert Daryl Nathanson .
