Week 11

This week proves that only 1 thing is for certain… That nothing is for certain. LSU lost for the second week in a row to Arkansas, Georgia finally got out of their slump with their victory against Auburn, Missouri pulls off a win against BYU,  and Vanderbilt handed Kentucky their fifth straight loss. The only two games this week that didn’t have any surprises in the SEC was Alabama’s dominant performance against Mississippi State, and Florida’s win against South Carolina.

Arkansas vs. LSU: This is the Arkansas team that the experts saw in the preseason when they said that the Razorbacks could win the SEC. Although it’s too late for them to go all the way, they still have a chance to prove that they are a force to be reckoned with. Alex Collins had a huge game with, 16 carries for 141 yards, 2 touchdowns, while Leonard Fournette had 19 carries for 91 yards and 1 touchdown. This is Fournette’s second week in a row without 100+ rushing yards. It is also the second week in a row that LSU has come up short… Coincidence? I think NOT! With Arkansas’s recent success it leads me to wonder what their season could’ve been if Jonathan Williams didn’t get hurt.

Georgia at Auburn: Or should I say Isaiah McKenzie at Auburn? McKenzie pretty much single handily beat the Tigers with 4 carries, 26 yards, 1 rushing touchdown, 2 receptions, 15 yards, a 53 yard punt return for another touchdown, which just so happened to be the game deciding touchdown. The man had himself a game. The Dawgs were able to share the load Nick Chubb left with his season ending injury, and were able to get it done on the ground. Georgia fans must also give credit to Greyson Lambert for not throwing any interceptions this week!

Alabama vs. Mississippi State: Alabama showed the nation that they deserve to be in the top four this weekend. The first play of the game set the tone when A’Shawn Robinson sacked Dak Prescott for a 7 yard loss, which was the first of nine. The Tide also gave Prescott one of his two interceptions for this season. Even though Prescott threw for 300 yards he was still unable to score a single touchdown. Derrick Henry on the other hand had 22 carries for 204 yards and 2 touchdowns, which, in my opinion, catapults him over Leonard Fournette in the Heisman race.

Vanderbilt vs. Kentucky: Like Arkansas, but on a much, much, much smaller scale, Vanderbilt proved to everyone that they can play. The Commodores barely lost to Florida two weekends ago, and then stepped up to defeat Kentucky. The Wildcats’ had a goal to be 6-6 this season, and had Vanderbilt being one of those six victories. Now they are 4-6, and Kentucky must beat UNC Charlotte, and Louisville to reach their bowl dreams. After Patrick Towle‘s poor performance  redshirt freshman Drew Barker will take command next week. Also Vanderbilt has to play Texas A&M and Tennessee the next two weeks, so Commodore fans let’s not get too excited. However, I would be pleased with Derek Mason’s progress this season. The SEC is not a conference where you see change overnight, but rather over time.

The SEC is starting to heat up!
